My Pension Online goes MFA

23/06/2022 Racheal Smith

Online security and worries about pension scams are important issues in all our lives, and we need to constantly be on guard for people taking our information and accessing our funds. Therefore, it should be welcome news that the Teacher Pension Company has taken the option to turn on multifactor authentication to My Pension Online.

What is My Pension Online?

My Pension Online is a hub on the Teacher Pension Scheme website where you can get all the information about your pension. It is where you can check your employment history, understand the estimated value of your benefits and use the calculators to help you make decisions in the future.

Every teacher in a state school is auto-enrolled in the Teacher Pension Scheme and can sign up for their login details to My Pension Online.

What is MFA?

Multifactor Authentication, or MFA, needs you to provide details such as emails and mobile phone numbers, so your identity can be checked. You can also use an authenticator app such as Authenticator.

When you log in now, you will need your unique pin. When you login in the future, you will be able to skip MFA once, but the next time, you will be asked for a code sent to your chosen source.

The only mobile phone numbers and emails accepted are the ones you listed in your My Pension Online profile.

Benefits

There are obvious benefits to using MFA on your My Pension Online account. Most importantly, it improves security. However, it removes the need for you to remember your password and makes it a better experience as a user of a web service.
